Envirotron Greenhouse

Back

The Faculty of Health and Applied Science at the University of the West of England was in need of a greenhouse far beyond the usual scope.

John Perkins Construction won the tender for the £570,000 contract and set about turning a small grassed area on UWE’s Frenchay campus into a state-of-the-art research and teaching greenhouse.

Following a 16-week programme, the ‘Envirotron’ facility was created. The specification of the greenhouse called for a significant amount of specialist equipment, including automatically-controlled lighting, blinds, vents and fans, to ensure the plants won’t overheat.

Now that the Envirotron greenhouse is up and running, UWE has a dedicated space to undertake world-class biological and environmental research.
