At the 2017 Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship awards, Kai Douglas, a John Perkins Carpentry Apprentice, was named Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in the Construction category.
Kai joined John Perkins Construction in September 2016 as part of a Level 2 Carpentry Apprenticeship. Previously, he had only completed basic, DIY carpentry skills at home, and he had been out of formal education for 12 years. However, he has quickly found his footing as a Carpenter, achieving three distinctions in his practical exams and establishing himself as a confident and helpful member of the team.
The outstanding work by Hayden Pickett and the team during the Fosse Way School project was honoured with a Gold Award. The £1m scheme to construct a six-classroom building for the school involved working in a sensitive environment, on a logistically challenging site.
More recognition for Hayden Pickett and the team, whose diligence during the Fosse Way School project was in the spotlight at the LABC West of England Awards.
