National Federation of Builders Awards 2018 Finalist

John Perkins Construction’s restoration of the Old Bridewell Police HQ Building (The Bristol Wing) for YMCA Bristol was honoured with a nomination for Heritage Project of the Year at the 2018 National Federation of Builders (NFB) Awards.

The £1.8m project represented a unique heritage challenge. Being shortlisted for the NFB Heritage Project of the Year is another feather in the cap for John Perkins Construction, a company that prides itself on sensitive restoration of historical, listed, and otherwise extraordinary buildings.

The prestigious Bristol Civic Society Design Awards recognise developments in Bristol which make a positive contribution to the local environment through excellence of design. The Bristol Wing, a Grade-II-listed former police CID building, which John Perkins Construction restored and refurbished was honoured with a 2018 Design Award.

BSG Health & Safety Awards 2017 – BSG Project Award

John Perkins Construction picked up the BSG Project Award at the 2017 Building Safety Group Awards, in recognition of its work to raise the bar in health and safety standards during the restoration of Underfall Yard.

Underfall Yard is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with Grade II* listed landmarks, which required an extremely sensitive approach during the works, with full temporary scaffold roofs and sheeting in use externally and full bird cage scaffolds in use internally.

Paul Glennon and the site team were recognised for their excellent site management during a complex project, winning a Gold Award for the £2.4 million restoration works at Bristol Harbourside’s Underfall Yard.

Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards 2017 – Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Construction)

At the 2017 Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship awards, Kai Douglas, a John Perkins Carpentry Apprentice, was named Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in the Construction category.

Kai joined John Perkins Construction in September 2016 as part of a Level 2 Carpentry Apprenticeship. Previously, he had only completed basic, DIY carpentry skills at home, and he had been out of formal education for 12 years. However, he has quickly found his footing as a Carpenter, achieving three distinctions in his practical exams and establishing himself as a confident and helpful member of the team.

The outstanding work by Hayden Pickett and the team during the Fosse Way School project was honoured with a Gold Award. The £1m scheme to construct a six-classroom building for the school involved working in a sensitive environment, on a logistically challenging site.
