Working in a sensitive environment, on a logistically challenging site, is all in a day’s work for John Perkins.
Winning a £1 million, design and build competitive contract to create a new Post-16 Centre for Fosse Way School in Radstock saw the company deliver on time and within budget — as well as scoop a Considerate Constructor’s Scheme Gold Award.
The new, six-classroom building is a timber framed, single-storey construction with brickwork and render cladding, located at the far end of the school’s playing fields.
Access across the entire school site was required throughout the project and sensitive management was key. John Perkins Construction’s partnership approach and understanding the challenges involved ensured the smooth co-ordination of a construction team which included MACE, the client’s agent; DKA Architects and Hydrock structural and services engineers.
With the school remaining occupied throughout the project, the John Perkins team minimised impact and noise, communicating on a regular basis with the local community to keep people posted.
