John Perkins Construction built an extensive new facility for YMCA Dulverton Group in Highbridge, Somerset. The development features a community hub, café and sports facility, alongside 23 homes for vulnerable people.
It’s a project that has helped to transform an area of Highbridge that has long deserved revitalisation. The hotel that previously stood on the land was ravaged by fires in 2008 and 2011, leaving behind only the property’s Grade-II-listed frontage. This frontage has been faithfully recreated, with a sleek new complex built around it.
Across the board, there was a strong sense of collaborative working established between John Perkins Construction and the client, YMCA Dulverton Group; their associates at Sedgemoor District Council; the architect, BBA Architects; Building Control; and the other partners and subcontractors.
Time and budgets met with challenges, due to difficulties that were encountered with the offsite drainage connections. However, thanks to some creative problem solving, these issues were resolved. The client and local council are thrilled with the final outcome of this landmark facility.
