Rupert Perkins provides a voice for SMEs as he is reappointed to CITB committee

8th December 2020 |

Following a successful three years on the Industry Funding Committee, helping to advise the CITB Board, Rupert Perkins has been reappointed for a further four-year term. In this role, one of several prestigious non-exec positions that Rupert holds, he is well placed to campaign for improved CITB offerings for SMEs.

The Industry Funding Committee is an oversight body that advises on strategy for CITB grants, and provides independent review of their funding decisions. Chaired by Steve Fox CBE, former Chief Executive of BAM Nuttall, the committee also includes representatives from Kier, Rooff, and BSRIA.

“I am delighted to be extending my term on the Industry Funding Committee, especially at this crucial time,” comments Rupert Perkins, Managing Director of John Perkins Construction. “Covid-19 has enforced a significant reappraisal of the way CITB provides its services. I’m pleased to be able to provide a voice for SMEs in the construction industry as we forge a new way forward.”

“There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to upskilling people in the construction industry,” he adds. “SMEs pay into the CITB Levy in the same way as big contractors, and their needs must be understood. Over the last three years, the Industry Funding Committee has been able to improve offerings for SMEs, but there’s more work to be done in this area. We need to keep up the good fight.”
